Sun Shines on the Handicapped

Humanitarian missionaries (us) hired buses and special vans to transport 64 guests to an event held in their honor.

Some of these folks hadn't been outside of their homes in over a year because mobility and transportation is such a challenge.

Members of the 2 branches of the Church in Bucharest joined their guests in the backyard of the meetinghouse.

The program began! Here are a few of the highlights:

This couple are professional performers - he is on the High Council.

More talented Church members perform a lovely guitar/mandolin duet.

Senior missionaries do a skit about a "night at the cinema".

This is a 70-year-old "baba" whose energy and humor made everyone smile.

A member reads a poem written by a young handicapped girl who is in the audience, but too shy to read it herself.

Art on parade as members show samples of handicapped people's artwork.

A gallery of the artwork was displayed inside the building. There were twice as many pieces as can be seen in this photo.

Meanwhile, the barbecues are all fired up.

Mici (pronounced "meech"),a combination of ground beef and pork and special spices - a Romanian barbecue favorite.

The ladies set up the plates - the menu is 4 large cucumber sticks, 5 pieces of mici, 2 spiced sausages with mustard.  A very generous serving by our standards. Juice or water and bread is on the tables.

Dinner is served!  Dessert was an orange and a chocolate bar for everyone.

After dinner, every guest was presented with a flower.

Then back home with full stomachs, happy hearts and great memories.

Loredana said, "This is the happiest day of my life."  We'll never forget you either.
